The Lakeland Country Fair takes
place at Torver, near Coniston, in beautiful countryside looking across
to the Coniston fells and Coniston Old Man. It is easily accessible, at
the junction of the A593 and A5084, a few miles west of Coniston
village. As well as being a typical Cumbrian show, the Lakeland Country Fair acts as a showcase for traditional Cumbrian skills and activities. There will be Herdwick and Swaledale sheep on display and demonstrations of hand-clipping will take place during the afternoon. Features include a Terrier Show followed by Terrier Racing, a Lurcher Show, a family Dog Show, Childrens' Sports, a Stick Show, a Sheepdog Show for pet and working sheepdogs, a Foxhound Show, Beagle Show and a Horn-blowing competition! There will be Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, Fell Races for adults and juniors, and a Ferret Show. Many traditional skills will be on show, including stickmaking, woodcarving, fly tying, beekeeping, taxidermy, weaving, spinning, leatherwork and sheep clipping. In the main ring you can see Displays of Working Horses & Ponies. There will also be an opportunity to see birds of prey close-up. A feature of the show introduced successfully in 2011, teams from the local Young Farmers will be taking part in a Tug-of-War. At the end of the day, weather permitting, there will be a display of paragliding. The Lakeland Country Fair offers something for all the family - as well as numerous Trade Stands there is a childrens' area with bouncy castle, swingboats and a roundabout. There will be Donkey Rides for the children, a Climbing Wall and a Rodeo Bull. There is a licensed bar, home-made refreshments and a barbecue. |
